Robber was gunned down by a single shot...Bravo!!

AMPANG JAYA: An armed robber was gunned down by a single shot fired from a sniper's position by an alert security guard during a bank heist. Armed with an assault rifle, the suspect, in his 20s, was about to flee with a bag containing RM200,000 when he was shot in the chest.
He died instantly during the 3.15pm daring heist in Taman Muda near here yesterday.
OCPD Asst Comm Amiruddin Jamaluddin said police were still in the midst of identifying the suspect, clad in a jacket and helmet with a visor.
He said they had seized the Steyr rifle and closed-circuit television footage to assist them in the investigation.
“Initial investigations showed the suspect had dashed into the bank while brandishing the rifle in his hand at about 3.05pm.
“He then shouted to about 20 bank customers, ordering them to squat before instructing several tellers to place money in a bag.
“While he attempted to jump over the counter to grab the bag, the security guard opened fire with a shotgun, killing the suspect on the spot,” he said.
ACP Amiruddin said police were alerted to the scene by the bank staff and they found the suspect lying motionless in a pool of blood.
He said police would record a statement from the security guard.
“We will also record statements from the bank staff and customers,” he said, adding that police would investigate whether the suspect had an accomplice.
Those with information should contact 03-4252 2222 or the nearest police station.
