Kuala Terengganu, Malaysia: Her action not only led to recovery of the robbed item but also alerted members of the public who chased and beat up the robber.
Syarifah Ayub,32, said she was in the shop with another employee when a man in his 30's came to buy jewellery at about 2pm. She said the man who was given a gold chain worth RM6,000 to hold suddenly ran off towards a car parked nearby.
"I panicked and screamed for help. Passers-by then chased and caught the robber after 500 metres after his car failed to start," she told reporters at the crime scene.
As a result of the incident, the suspect who hails from Kelantan suffered severe head and body injuries.
Terengganu police chief Datuk Jamshah Mustafa when contacted confirmed the robbery adding the suspect was remanded for further investigation. He said that the case was investigated under Section 380 of Penal Code.
